Graduate Studies

Pedagogy graduates completing the graduate studies gain profound interdisciplinary professional knowledge focused on a particular pedagogy specialization, in this case care and upbringing pedagogy or defense education. Apart from theoretical knowledge they learn to conduct research, identify and solve theoretical and practical problems to the extent of the specialization chosen. They are prepared for pro-social activity, self-development and continuation of their education at the 3rd degree studies (studies for doctoral degree). They are also prepared for professional activity corresponding to their specialization.

Care and upbringing pedagogy

Care pedagogy is most often defined as a branch of pedagogical sciences related to social pedagogy and social policy. Its main subject is the phenomenon of care provided to children and youth as well as people representing other age groups who find themselves in difficult life situations. To define the subject precisely it must be emphasized that this is a study of functions, objectives, rules, forms and methods of interpersonal care, care-based upbringing and care upbringing. At present care and upbringing activity that our students are prepared for continues to extend its social scope.

Therefore, the graduate studies in care and upbringing pedagogy that we offer aim at educating specialists qualified to work in care and upbringing institutions.

The specialization tutors are teachers with great academic achievements and considerable practical experience in this field. Apart from theoretical interdisciplinary preparation graduates completing the Master’s degree studies in care and upbringing pedagogy are taught to:

  • Plan upbringing and animation strategies supporting individual development and offering equal educational, cultural and social opportunities
  • Initiate, organize and provide care to children, youth and people representing other age groups who find themselves in difficult life situations

Defense Education

Defense education is a specialization aimed at educating specialists dealing with the state safety tasks. Apart from theoretical preparation corresponding to majors and specializations chosen students also learn how to react in crisis situations and develop skills necessary to manage anti-crisis action. Therefore, the studies aim at providing learners with methodological knowledge that safety education teachers need to have, as well as knowledge required while serving various administration and supervision functions in the country’s social-political and economic life.

Apart from professional skills taught as specified in the syllabus students also acquire many general skills such as the ability to observe phenomena, think logically, take quick decisions, maintain self-control and self-esteem, search and process information, cooperate with others and work in teams, use legal acts and apply the knowledge of law.

Owing to the knowledge of defense education that the graduates acquire they know how to diagnose security threats to the extent of natural, industrial, social and terrorist threats and take proper action, apply psychological and sociological rules in crisis situations, follow social communication rules, conduct necessary negotiations and mediation, implement modern information technologies, teach classes in education for safety and organize specialized training courses; undertake educational activities related to safety, road safety and first aid methods.

Graduates’ professional competence meets present employment requirements related to such jobs as education for safety teachers, government and local authorities administration employees taking positions related to the country’s defences and public safety as well as government and self-government institutions of crisis management and civil protection, civil uniformed services employees, candidates for uniformed services (the Polish Army, Police, the Boarder Guards, the Internal Security Agency, the Prison Service, the State Fire Service).

The specialization tutors are renowned specialists in this particular field. Graduates of both specializations are prepared for the next stage of the educational process at the 3rd degree studies (doctoral studies) or chosen post-graduate studies, and thus they are also prepared for their personal development and may broaden their professional skills.

Motor activity pedagogy

Motor activity pedagogy is a specialization aimed at all those interested in physical and health culture, sports, physical education, recreation and tourism, organization of free time and active leisure.

Graduates are qualified to independently deal with the syllabus subjects concerning physical culture, extra-curricular sports and recreation activities as well as methods of intensive and active leisure in any kind of educational and community institutions.

Completing the studies graduates receive thorough theoretical and practical interdisciplinary preparation focused on physical culture and health education, they know how to conduct pedagogical diagnoses, identify and solve theoretical and practical problems falling within the scope of their specialization, they are also prepared for pro-social activity and self-development. They may be employed as physical education teachers in all types of schools. They are also fully qualified to take up a job in other educational and upbringing institutions, sports clubs, societies and associations, government and local authorities administration units fulfilling tasks related to physical culture and health promotion and any other active recreation institutions.

Early education

This specialization is addressed to teachers who plan to work with children in the age 3-8 years (considering the fact that in compliance with law regulations children begin their education at the age of 6); they are prepared to work in kindergartens or elementary schools at the level of integrated education.
Master’s degree studies in this specialization, apart from the up-to-date subject matter knowledge of pre-school and integrated education, also provide knowledge in the field of organization, management and supervision of educational institutions.

Therefore, graduates develop their knowledge and professional skills, and they are also prepared for independent work such as running private kindergartens, clubs supporting development and other educational and care institutions.
